When Giving Up is Okay

In Family, Friends, Mental Well-being, Relationships, Work on August 20, 2013 at 12:10 pm

I’ve always had a thick skin- it’s been my gift and my curse along with my ability to move past situations quickly. People often misconstrued my “gift” as cowardice or having a quitter attitude. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. At a young age I’ve learned to put myself first and if something is supposed to be good for you it doesn’t hurt and constantly cause you to question it. This applies to being stuck in a job that you’re not satisfied with, being in an unfulfilled relationship where your partner does not value your happiness, surrounding yourself with friends who’d prefer your downfall over your success-I could continue with this list. In these situations, I give you permission to quit. Quit continuing ties just for the sake of being in a relationship/having friends when you’re really dissatisfied, quit the drama, quit the questioning, quit wasting valuable time, and quit wondering why you’re not happy all of the time.

Why Settle?

In Culture, Family, Friends, Health, Relationships, Work on November 13, 2012 at 7:46 pm

Why Settle?

Inasmuch as I enjoy rhetoric, I really pose the question “Why settle?” So often I see friends and acquaintances settling in regards to their work, friendships, and relationships with little or no explanation as to why they did. I’d talk about all of my experiences in settling but you don’t have a lifetime or a violin to sit with me on that one lol But most often for me it was my inability to inconvenience others. And by “inability” I mean that I tried at all times to avoid seeming difficult or not agreeable. But guess what? When a person avoids interpersonal conflict it results in internal conflict and that can lead to a lot of negativity (i.e. feelings of resentment, communication disconnect with others, etc.). So I suggest remedying settling with settling on the fact that you are as important as any thing or person in which you are giving attention, time and energy to. Do what makes you happy & healthy emotionally, mentally and physically and do it often.

The Attitude of Gratitude

In Culture, Family, Friends, Relationships, Work on September 19, 2012 at 6:17 pm

When was the last time you said “Thank you” and truly meant it? Or when was the last time you felt grateful for all of your life’s many blessings? I try to remind myself of things to be grateful for in my life on a daily basis. It keeps me grounded and helps to preserve my sanity when things in my life are seem out of control. Hopefully you too can find an attitude of gratitude.

Bad Luck Charm

Bad Luck Charm

I have been having an extreme amount of bad luck lately. Car accident in both of my cars? Check! *waves goodbye to the front end of my car & side mirror* Phone broken? Check! Identity stolen and tax returns filed by the imposter? Cheeeeck! I could go on but I’ve already bored myself in retelling it. Now here’s the crazy part…I’m still smiling! Ha! Take that Devil, with all your bad luck banter.

So, to any of you who have been having an unlucky day, week, month or year things will get better! They have to. Scientifically speaking (ok, probably not “scientifically speaking”), you’re at the bottom and there’s no other way for you to look but up. So stay focused and encouraged!

Oh, and feel free to share any of your bad luck turned good luck stories!
