The Attitude of Gratitude

In Culture, Family, Friends, Relationships, Work on September 19, 2012 at 6:17 pm

When was the last time you said “Thank you” and truly meant it? Or when was the last time you felt grateful for all of your life’s many blessings? I try to remind myself of things to be grateful for in my life on a daily basis. It keeps me grounded and helps to preserve my sanity when things in my life are seem out of control. Hopefully you too can find an attitude of gratitude.

It’s a gloomy day in Detroit so I figured I’d share my 5 favorite get happy songs at the moment. No matter how grim my mood is or how down and out I feel at times,  I play at least 1 of these songs and I get to grooving and smiling again.

What song(s) turn your frowns into smiles?

Hey 27!

In Culture, Family, Friends, Relationships on September 12, 2012 at 6:39 pm

I turned 27 this past Saturday and I’ve been partying ever since. So I apologize for the delayed post! Aside from uploading pics of my party I thought to myself ‘Hey self, what would you want to ask 28 year old you?’ So I’ve decided to ask and answer 5 questions about myself and reflect back on this post next year on my birthday to see where I am in life.
1. What’s your favorite saying? Keep calm and carry on.

2. What are you wearing today? Polo shirt, black dress pants, black patent leather wedge sandals (which I love).

3. How’s your hair? In box braids.

4. How do you feel about love and relationships? It’s all to complicated when it can be so simple.

5. Advice for future self: I hope you’re doing what makes YOU happy and making the most out of every moment of life possible!

Navigating Friendships

In Culture, Family, Friends, Relationships on September 6, 2012 at 4:25 am

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I had tons of “friends.” I effortlessly attended every party, made every birthday dinner, and I played the figurative sad violin at any of my friend’s pity parties that needed me with little notice (even at 3am). Now, a few years later and as I sit & balance all of life’s complexities, I find myself fighting to have the time to even have a quick dinner with friends. And in the end we schedule and reschedule in hopes that a bigger event will come along and oblige us to meet. But instead the “big” event ends up being a I-haven’t-seen-you-in-forever dinner. Well, at least that brings us together with our friends. Right? Even with this being so I’ve decided today to take a more active approach to my social life and make more time for my friends and family. Socialization is a large part of personal growth (I’ll expand on this at a later date). Nevertheless, I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress!
